I want to live in a gentler world. I want to take care of myself, other peeps, animals, and the planet. And I want accurate information for knowing how to do that.
We can accomplish amazing transformations just by eating more plants and less of the stuff our bodies don’t want. Or need.
We don’t have to give up eating as we know it. Let’s just learn how to eat more whole food plant-based meals — one meal at a time. Perfection is always an unreasonable goal, so how about we do our best? Life is short — let’s make sure we have fun along the way!
Who’s with me?
The Kindly Cafe is a tiny slice of the web for exploring how to balance health and happiness. How to be both productive and centered. How to relax and recharge. And we’re looking at living a great life from the perspective of how and what we eat.
You’re probably thinking that I only eat healthy stuff. That my teenagers are vegan and I feed my perfectly behaved dogs only plant-based dog food. That I never drink wine and always get a daily workout. That every night at 6 pm I have a fully home-cooked whole food plant-based dinner on the table.
In the interest of transparency, let me tell you I am far from perfect. More often than not I’m pretty mellow and happy. I have a long fuse but, wow, when I’m pushed I have a mighty quick ignition! You don’t wanna know…it can get ugly.
The last ten years I’ve had quite a ride — good things like our adopted kids, wonderful friends, supportive extended family, plenty of adventures, and relocation to Japan and back. I’ve also had major depression, chronic pain, autoimmune diseases, addiction to pain pills, and now a family member with a serious illness. You know — life!
In the middle of all that, I started learning about whole food plant-based living. I checked the science behind it and learned to cook tasty meals with more whole foods.
I feel so much better when I nurture myself with good nutrition, and I’m a much kinder person. Mind you, Mother Theresa, I am not. I’m a work in progress.
I know a lot about life and how WFPB (whole-food plant-based) living has helped me and many others. I just want to share that by providing great recipes, relevant how-tos, related research, and inspiring stories. And I want to make it all fun!
The Kindly Cafe welcomes everyone. No need to be perfect. The only rule is you have to want to be kind to yourself, each other, the environment, and our world. And a sense of humor is a definite plus.
